Lush Valentines Haul

As you will all probably know by now, I’m partial to a Lush product or two (who am I kidding?). There really is nothing I love more than kicking back in the bath, surrounded by multi-coloured water, with a good book or playlist. There is just something really comforting about baths and more importantly it’s you-time. So in the run up to Valentine’s, I thought I would do a post on some of the gorgeous v-day products I picked up in Lush Liverpool last week. So whether you’re treating yourself (which you absolutely should, I mean Galentines right?) or looking for gift ideas, these are some winners!

Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar

This has to be one of my favourite Lush products ever, because who doesn’t want a magical unicorn bath? While arguably one of Lush’s prettiest bath products, Unicorn Horn also smells of lavender, so is perfect for forgetting about the world for a little while in dreamy pink waters. I’ll be stocking up on more of these as they are just around for v-day, so don’t miss out!

Heart of Enlightened Expectation Bubble Bar Melt

I couldn’t resist picking up this new addition, especially as it is a mash up of a bubble bar and a melt. If you have ever tried Lush’s Over and Over bath bomb, you will know how softening the combination can be. The design of this product is lovely; it almost looks a bit cake-like with the whipped effect on top. If you’re a glitter kind of girl, this is a melt you won’t mind being around on Valentine’s Day!

Love Boat Bath Bomb

Is hard not to fall in love with, Lush you have got it SO right with this one. After seeing so many rave reviews on Instagram, I couldn’t wait to snap one up for myself. The design is adorable; it features a love heart at the bow of the boat and tiny red hearts underneath ready to be released into the water. Love Boat contains lemon oil, orange oil, and is balance out with rose oil, and it smells so good! Get ready to feel like you’re bathing in sherbet as this bath bomb will turn the water all kinds of pastel colours.  Whether you’re buying for a gift or for yourself, this is a must.

Whole Lotta Love Bubbleroon

Try going into Lush and not picking one of these up, I dare you! Whether it’s just for you or a bath for two, it doesn’t get more romantic than this bubbleroon. Whole Lotta Love is two hearts sandwiched together with creamy, gold, shea butter, and as if that wasn’t enough, it smells divine! Keeping in with the v-day line theme this year, this contains shea butter, murumuru butter, and rose absolute. I really want to pick up another one of these before they go!

January Loves

We’re finally at the end of January! I don’t know about you guys but I can’t wait for some warmer weather, not that there is a great deal in the UK! Despite January feeling as though it’s been going on for over a year, it has had its perks, and this post is all about the little things that have made January that bit better.

With that in mind, I’ve decided to make a ‘loves’ list at the end of every month, to highlight all the good that has happened, however big or small, as it will be nice to look back on.

So here are all of the things I have loved this January..

  • Urban Decay’s Troublemaker Mascara

Probably the most wanted mascara of 2017 right? I have been using it throughout January and I have to say, I’m impressed! I don’t usually go for the thinner brushes, but I quite like how this one grabs the lashes and makes them look fuller.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with mascara, purely because I’d love to make it through half a shift at work without looking like a panda. I haven’t had this issue with Troublemaker, and I’m glad because it’s become one of my favourite products.

As if you needed any more reason to try it, look at that packing, all prismatic and metallic, so dreamy.

  • Turtles All The Way Down

You have probably seen this book everywhere, and if not, where have you been? This latest instalment by John Green made its way into my book pile a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn’t put it down!  If you missed my review of TATWD you can read it here:

Much like Green’s other books it has love, heartbreak, humour, loss, and friendship, but the main theme of TATWD is mental illness. It is an extremely interesting read, particularly if you want to learn about what it is like to live with a mental illness.

It’ll break your heart, put it back together again, and see the world but not as you did before. I will definitely be reading it again. Buy it here:

  • Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Treatment

Admittedly, my hair has probably had it pretty rough this winter, what with the party season and the baltic weather, it was in need of a pick-me-up.  I spied this little beauty on a lunch break and decided that my evening was going to be an all out pamper, which included snacks and Friends episodes, of course.

I have used this product twice now (once a week for me!), and I am really impressed! Not only does my hair feel more moisturised, but it also gives it that ‘just finished up at the hairdressers’ shine, and god knows we all want that in a simple form, well here it is in one bottle!

I’m also impressed by the wait time on this, only 3 minutes! So it’s perfect if you’re pressed for time but still want a little pamper.

Aussie Miracle Deep Treatment, you can stay.

  • Manhunt Unabomber

So two days out of my January consisted of binge watching this, the show that everyone has been raving about.

If you haven’t seen it before it’s based on the true story of the FBI trying to hunt down an elusive terrorist known as the Unabomber. I have to admit I didn’t know much about the real event until I started watching this series, but it is incredibly interesting.

Season 1 is on Netflix, so grab a mug of something hot and some biscuits and get settled in for eight gripping episodes.

  • Tassel Earrings

These are my latest obsession. After seeing a lot of fashion bloggers sporting them, I fell in love, but it was one of those, will they look that good on me or will I just look like I’ve cut off some of my curtains and stuck them to my ears situations.  Luckily, the pair I had for Christmas don’t make me look like I’ve been doing curtain arts and crafts, they are lovely. These beaut’s are from Primark and are only £3! They now also come in black, pale pink, grey, hot pink, white, and purple. You have my full permission to leave this post to go and get them!

  • One Night With My Ex

So I’m a little late to the party with this one, but there is no stopping me now, I’ve become a little obsessed with this show. Believe it or not, I hadn’t heard of this show until a few weeks ago when my Twitter feed became clogged with tweets about an Amy and a Tom from the show. So predictable me had to find out what had happened and that’s when I became hooked.

For those of you that haven’t seen the show, it focuses on three different couples who, as you can guess by the title of the show, aren’t together anymore. The three couples meet in an apartment/hotel to talk and answer questions about why they broke up, and can choose to spend the night with their ex if they wish. I know what you’re thinking, who would actually want to sit in a room with their ex?!

It has become my guilty pleasure, to the point where I am all caught up and waiting for next week’s episode. I think my favourite episode has to be the one with the couple Joseph and Ellie, trust me; it is something you have to watch!

What are your January Loves? I’d love to hear them below! 💛

My Reverse Bucket List

Sometimes I think it can be quite easy to focus on all the things you should be doing or what everyone else is doing, that it can be quite easy to forget all of the amazing things you have accomplished already. With the New Year already a week in and everyone looking to the future, I thought it would be nice to do what everyone tells you not to do, to look back, not on the negatives but all of the positive things that have happened in the past few years that I can happily check off my bucket list.

Being Published

This has always been at the top of my bucket list, to have my own words in print with my name underneath. I achieved this while on work experience with a local newspaper, and it was just the most fantastic few weeks. If you have a love of writing then you will know what it means to have your own work out there for all to see aka the dream! The other dream on my actual bucket list is to write my own books one day, but that one is still a dream for now!

Moving Out

This was a huuuge step that we took just over a year ago! Although kinda scary, it is one of the best things I have ever done. That isn’t to say that I don’t miss home, but more that it felt like the right time for me to take that step, plus after moving out for university a couple years before, you kind of miss your own space. So currently we are in an apartment, but saving our pennies so we can start house hunting! Exciting times ahead!

Starting Beauty and the Scribbles

Last year I was determined to start writing on a regular basis, about my life, the things I love, and everything in between. It’s been almost a year since I created Beauty and the Scribbles, and I couldn’t be without it now! This year I am hoping to develop it further and give my blog a makeover in the near future, it can only get bigger and better!

New York

The ultimate dream destination right? Like many of you, this was top of my travel bucket list, especially after watching Friends, Gossip Girl and Sex and the City! I was extremely lucky enough to go when my mum decided she wanted to get married in Central Park, and it was the most magical week. New York blues are definitely real, a couple of years on and I am constantly asking Ryan when we can go back, and checking return flight costs…

My Degree

I don’t think I have ever felt more proud of myself to be completely honest. I will never forget finding out that I had achieved a 2:1 in my Journalism combined with English Language Degree. I was in Liverpool on a Hen weekend getting ready to leave the hotel, when I checked Facebook and people were posting about their results, cue that sinking feeling and sheer panic. I quickly tried to log onto the Portal to get my results, but couldn’t get on it, so rang my boyfriend who promised to log in for me and tell me my results. How bloody nerve wracking knowing that someone knows your results before you do, right? Needless to say, the rest of the weekend was a fabulous double celebration!

Visiting New Places

City breaks have really become my thing over the past few years, I love the thought of spending a few days in a completely new place, wandering. I make it my mission every new year to promise to visit at least two new places within the year. One of last year’s new places was Krakow, where neither of us had visited before, and we absolutely loved it! It’s made us think about visiting places we hadn’t really considered visiting before. Time to get planning…

Last year I was lucky to see The Weeknd in concert with my best friends; I have wanted to see him live for absolutely ages! Then I surprised my boyfriend in Krakow with tickets to see The Killers, a band we have wanted to see live for absolutely ages.

Writing this list has left me with a big smile on my face as it can be quite easy to forget just how much you have actually achieved and done. Having a bucket list is great for goal setting and looking to the future, but sometimes it is okay to look back because you did some great things back there.

Do you have a reverse bucket list? What would you put on yours? Let me know or leave links in the comments below!

My 2018 Goal List

First of all, Happy New Year you lovely lot! I hope you had a lovely time however you chose to celebrate! I spent New Year with my family and boyfriend, we went for a meal and a few drinks, it was a lovely way to see in the new year.

2017 was a pretty good year for me on the whole, that’s not to say it didn’t have it’s testing moments, but it wouldn’t be life without those. Every year, a couple of days into the New Year, I make a list, and not of resolutions. I really don’t like resolutions, all they bring is disappointment because you haven’t completed them in the time frame you set. I prefer to make a list of goals which I have until the next New Year to complete, if I don’t complete them, they get added onto next years list. I find I complete more of my goals this way, and love crossing off what I have achieved at the end of the year.

This years 2018 goals are:

Start Learning to Drive Again – I started driving a while ago, but stopped my lessons when I moved to Chester for university. If I’m being totally honest, I hated driving, I found it stressful and hated making mistakes. I really want to be able to drive, but the thought does make me feel uneasy at times. This year I’m going to face that unease and start learning again, if I’ve almost done it once, I can do it again!

Travel to at Least Two New Places- Like many of you, I absolutely love travelling, there’s nothing like the excitement of hopping on a plane to a completely new destination! My aim is to travel to a minimum of two new places this year, one up from last years which was Krakow.

Re-join the Gym – Cliche goal I know, but there is a reason for it. My boyfriend and I have been looking for another gym after leaving our previous one, we just wanted more from it. We think we have already found our potential new gym, we will be going for a taster day in the next week or so!

Visit Harry Potter World – This goal has been taken from last years list, as I still haven’t been 😦  For those of you that don’t know me, I am a big Harry Potter fan (I’m a Hufflepuff according to Pottermore, what are you?), and this is a must for me this year!

Focus on Friendships – As you get older, things get busy and it can be pretty hard to tend to all of your friendships like you did back in the school days. I’m making it one of my main goals to nurture those friendships that I know are lifelong and create new ones.

Read 40 New Books –  Self confessed bibliophile here! I want all of your book recommendations this year, 40 is my minimum goal for this year!

Focus on Self-Care More – Again, another that is easy to neglect because of business. This year so much more time will be dedicated to this, even if it’s just an evening watching my favourite film, lighting a candle, spending a whole day in my pj’s eating bagels, or going for a walk.

Say Yes More – This is something I am taking with me from 2017, where it’s a kind of ‘face the fear and do it anyway’ goal. Public speaking? Absolutely hate it, but did I stand up and compare a fashion show in a room full of 80+ people? I only bloody did and felt so proud of myself afterwards!

Hit 1,000 Followers on Beauty and the Scribbles – This year I’m looking forward to focusing on my blog so much more and growing my following!

Hit 2,000 Twitter Followers – Looking forward to joining more Twitter chats and interacting more with everyone. I love the blogging community and would love to engage more with it.

Blog Weekly – Another of my main goals is to blog every week without fail! My blog is my passion, it is my space to write, create and reflect, and I couldn’t imagine being without it now. This year I’m going to pull greater focus towards my blog and help it continue to grow!

I am really looking forward to the year ahead and everything it brings, especially if I can smash all of these goals along the way! Here’s to you 2018!

Let me know your New Years Goals, I’d love to read them! Leave your links or comments below – and obviously let me know which HP house you’re in!

Blogmas Day 20: My Christmas Book Wishlist

As you can probably tell from my blog, I am a bit of a bibliophile; I have just always been in love with books! I always try and squeeze in a read, whether it’s on my lunch break or when I go to bed, I find it so relaxing. A little sad fact about me, I keep a list of all the books I want to read on my phone so I don’t lose track or forget their names, so I thought why not turn that wish list into a blog post? Here are the books currently on my wish list that I am dying to read in the New Year!

My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella

I have always been a fan of Kinsella’s books; they always provide laughs, love and that feel-good factor that leaves you wanting more. The blurb of My Not So Perfect Life made me laugh alone, so I am expecting great things from what’s inside! I loved the Shopaholic series and I’ve Got Your Number, so I just know this will be added to my list of favourites already.  If you’re interested or hearing about this book for the first time, here is the blurb (try not to spit out whatever you’re drinking!)

Katie Brenner has the perfect life: a flat in London, a glamorous job, and a super-cool Instagram feed.

OK, so the truth is that she rents a tiny room with no space for a wardrobe, has a hideous commute to a lowly admin job, and the life she shares on Instagram isn’t really hers.

But one day her dreams are bound to come true, aren’t they?

Until her not-so-perfect life comes crashing down when her mega-successful boss Demeter gives her the sack. All Katie’s hopes are shattered. She has to move home to Somerset, where she helps her dad with his new glamping business.

Then Demeter and her family book in for a holiday, and Katie sees her chance. But should she get revenge on the woman who ruined her dreams – or try to get her job back? Does Demeter – the woman who has everything – actually have such an idyllic life herself? Maybe they have more in common than it seems.

And what’s wrong with not-so-perfect, anyway?

You can buy My Not So Perfect Life here.

Turtles All The Way Down by John Green

John Green books have the ability to break my heart and piece it back together again by the end, they stay with you long after you have finished them. When I heard about Green’s latest release I wanted to buy it instantly, but that pesky no buying rule before Christmas got in the way. What sets Green apart for me is that he is not afraid to tackle more serious matters in his novels, whilst still providing humour and heart warming moments along the way. Turtles All the Way Down sounds no different with its theme of mental health. My other favourites from John Green are Looking for Alaska (If you haven’t read it, you really must!), and of course, The Fault in Our Stars. I can’t wait to read his latest tale and fall in love with another set of characters.

‘It’s quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see.’

Sixteen-year-old Aza never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there’s a hundred thousand dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis.

Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.

In his long-awaited return, John Green, the acclaimed, award-winning author of Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars, shares Aza’s story with shattering, unflinching clarity in this brilliant novel of love, resilience, and the power of lifelong friendship.

You can buy Turtles All the Way Down here.

Lyrebird by Cecelia Ahern

No one can transport me into another world quite like Cecelia Ahern, and her worlds are magical beyond belief. I have been a fan of Ahern ever since my mum introduced me to her books when I was younger. The first book I ever read was If You Could See Me Now, which is a beautiful read if you haven’t read it. Lyrebird sounds typical of Ahern, but in a very good way, the whimsical characters, the magical settings, the plot that will take you through every emotion and really make you feel.  Lyrebird is on my list because much like many of Ahern’s other novels; the stories are so unique that it really sets them apart from all the rest. My all time favourite Cecelia Ahern book is Thanks for the Memories, if you haven’t read it, you’re missing out.

In the south-west of Ireland, rugged mountains meet bright blue lakes and thick forests. Deep in the woods, a young woman lives alone, forever secluded from the world, her life a well-kept secret. She possesses an extraordinary talent, the likes of which no-one has seen before: a gift that will earn her the nickname Lyrebird.

When Solomon stumbles into Laura’s solitary existence, her life is turned on its head. Pulled from her peaceful landscape to the cacophony of Dublin, she is confronted by a world desperate to understand her.

But while Solomon knows the world will embrace Laura, will it free her to spread her wings – or will it trap her in a gilded cage? Like all wild birds, she needs to fly free…

Lyrebird is a thoughtful, deeply moving love story; a story of the wild heart in us all and the quiet that lies underneath the world’s noise.

You can buy Lyrebird here.

Last Seen Alive by Claire Douglas

Douglas has had me hooked since her predecessors The Sisters and Local Girl Missing, both sensational reads which you can read reviews of on my blog here and hereLast Seen Alive looks like it has all of the qualities I loved about Douglas’ previous work, the twists, the secrets, and my favourite, the second guessing of every character. I’m not sure about you, but nothing quite makes me binge read a book when I can’t tell who is telling the truth and who is lying. Douglas always provides a brilliant twist, which will leave you reeling and re-reading to wonder how you could have been so wrong! I’m hoping Last Seen Alive makes its way into my book collection this Christmas, it looks a brilliant read.

She can run
Libby Hall needs to hide, to escape from everything for a while. Which is why the house swap is a godsend. The chance for Libby and her husband Jamie to exchange their tiny Bath flat for a beautiful haven on the wild Cornish coast.

But she can’t hide
But before they can begin to heal their fragile marriage, Libby makes some disturbing discoveries about the house. And soon the peace and isolation begin to feel threatening. How alone are they? Why does she feel watched?

Because someone knows her secret
What is Jamie hiding? Is Libby being paranoid? And why does the house bring back such terrible memories? Memories Libby’s worked hard to bury. Memories of the night she last saw her best friend alive . . . and what she did.

You can buy Last Seen Alive here.

Into the Water by Paula Hawkins

Okay so The Girl on the Train got me good, I mean it was brilliant right? All anyone could talk about for months, and quite rightly so. If you haven’t read Hawkins The Girl on the Train, you really need to get a copy, it is chilling to the bone and you will find yourself devouring every page. If reviews are anything to go by, Hawkins latest offering is better than her previous, if so, I am super excited to read it! Described as a chilling, ghostly whodunit, alongside Hawkins ability to pull us into the minds of her characters, I think Into the Water is going to tick all the boxes for me.

In the last days before her death, Nel called her sister. Jules didn’t pick up the phone, ignoring her plea for help.

Now Nel is dead. They say she jumped. And Jules has been dragged back to the one place she hoped she had escaped for good, to care for the teenage girl her sister left behind.

But Jules is afraid. So afraid. Of her long-buried memories, of the old Mill House, of knowing that Nel would never have jumped.

And most of all she’s afraid of the water, and the place they call the Drowning Pool . . .

You can buy Into the Water here.

What is on your book wishlist? I would love more recommendations, let me know in the comments!

Blogmas Day 17: My Favourite Festive Candles

Day 17 of Blogmas and I can’t quite believe how quick it has gone! Not to mention the fact that Christmas is only a week tomorrow (cue mild panic/excitement). I love the build up to Christmas, it’s so exciting, everything feels special and cosy evenings become the norm. An evening snuggled up isn’t complete for me without a candle or two burning away. It has to be said, I am a bit of a candle addict, I just can’t help buying them. One of my favourite brands is, of course, Yankee Candle, there are just so many fabulous scents to choose from! More recently I have discovered the Lily Flame candle brand; their tinned candles are so quirky and cute.

My all time favourite Yankee Candle has to be Candy Cane Lane; it is Christmas in a jar! This candle smells of peppermint, and gives off such a refreshing scent. Candy Cane Lane is one of the stronger scented candles I have had from Yankee, and it makes the room smell like a dream! The latest addition to my Yankee collection is the All is Bright tea lights. This new scent from Yankee’s Christmas range is more on the citrus side, I can definitely pick up the grapefruit and orange when they are burning. I love this scent because it is a little twist on the usual sweet/spicy Christmas scents. I have nearly used up all of my tea lights, so will definitely be investing in a large jar of All is Bright, it is a new favourite!

Another scent I love from this year’s Christmas range is White Spiced Cocoa, it smells delicious. I bought this scent in wax melt form and have loved burning it, so much so I think I will have to add a jar of it to my collection next time. This is a festive scent with a bit of nutmeg to spice it up, plus it makes me crave hot chocolate too, so there’s that!

Next up is a Yankee Candle staple, Snowflake Cookie, a sweet sugary treat for your home! Snowflake Cookie smells just how you would imagine, like fresh, sweet baking. This is the ultimate cosy up fragrance for me! Plus the picture on the front of the jar is enough to make you feel Christmassy alone.

Finally, the most recent of my candle purchases, Silent Night from the Lily Flame Christmas collection. This candle just oozes relaxation for me, the calming colours and the scent is quite sweet. I have only recently discovered the Lily Flame brand, and I have to say, I absolutely love it. Their whole range is beautiful, but their tinned candles stand out for me the most, with their beautiful labels and the multi-coloured wax that pokes out from the top of the candle. If you haven’t discovered Lily Flame or haven’t tried their candles, I would strongly recommend them! The tins would make a nice stocking filler or Secret Santa present.

Other Lily Flame candles I have my eye on are Christmas Eve, which looks like the perfect cosy scent for relaxing you the night before the big day, Jack Frost, which smells of cool lemon grass, and Warm Welcome, which smells beautifully of praline.

I could happily talk about candles forever, especially the festive ones! What are your favourite scents for over Christmas? I would love to hear your recommendations!
